Editing
Why hire a professional editor?
Good writing is the cornerstone of effective communication—the medium through which our ideas and knowledge get into the heads of our readers and make an impact. I’m here to facilitate the communication stage of your work so readers will want to engage with your writing and will get the most from what you have to say.
The formula is simple: The higher the quality of the writing, the more effective the communication, and the greater the impact on readers and other users of the information. However, high-quality writing takes effort and experience to develop. Most writers (including experienced ones) benefit from working with a professional editor.
I can help you: Upgrade your writing by removing ambiguities, enhancing clarity and flow, and making your information more effective for readers. If your goal is publication, the improvements in your writing will facilitate acceptance of your manuscript and increase the likelihood that readers will read and cite your work. I can also edit your document layout/design and do fact-checking, both of which add value to written work.

Thanks to Kirsten's guidance, my papers move through the publication process more smoothly than anyone else I know. Anyone looking to fast-track a decade of progress in writing should look to Kirsten.

Types of editing I incorporate
Structural editing
Improve the content and organization of your writing with structuring editing. I will suggest expanding, cutting, or re-ordering the text, with the goal of strengthening the "architecture" of the writing. The result is a solid framework for the presentation of the content.
Stylistic editing
Strengthen the coherence, flow, and clarity of your writing with stylistic editing. I will suggest adjustments to paragraph and sentence length, format, tone, word choices, complexity for intended readership, and level of formality. The result is a writing style optimized for effectiveness.
Copy editing
Enhance the accuracy and internal consistency of your writing with copy editing. I will suggest edits for punctuation, spelling, and grammar, and will correct or flag information that may require fact-checking. If a style sheet (of formatting requirements) is provided, I will ensure the writing reflects the parameters.

Process
-
Contact form: Submit your form describing your project or general inquiry. I will respond via email regarding next steps in our communication process.
-
Estimate: Send me your manuscript (or a sample page + word count) so I can provide an estimated cost for editing.
-
Video call: We will hold a free-of-charge virtual meeting to kick off the project so I can learn how best to support your goals through the editing work I will do for you.
-
Agreement form: I will send you the Agreement form to sign and return to me.
-
Editing: I will edit your project and return the new draft to you.
-
Secondary editing: After incorporating my editing suggestions, many clients request a subsequent round (or more) of minor edits for additional fine-tuning, which I am happy to arrange.
